The Frog and the Frozen Pond: A Fairy Tale for Children
Once upon a time, there lived a little green tree frog named Tiny.
As the days passed and winter approached, Tiny noticed that almost all of his friends had already settled into the depths of their winter sleep. The forest was gradually growing quiet, with hibernating animals peacefully sleeping beneath the branches of the trees. However, Tiny couldn’t quiet the restlessness and curiosity in his heart.
“Tiny, why don’t you hide from the cold like everyone else?” asked the wise Owl, the constant observer of the forest.
Tiny slowly replied, “I feel like I have to do something special this year. I’ve always been curious about the secrets of winter. I want to hear the sound of snow, see how the landscape changes, and discover if there’s life beneath the frost. I feel there’s something I need to learn that can only be understood this way.”
The Owl nodded understandingly. “Your curiosity and courage are rare treasures,” said the wise bird. “Just be cautious, and remember that nature is always an open book for those who truly wish to see.”
This inner desire drove Tiny to defy the usual and the traditional. He didn’t reject hibernation because he didn’t see its value, but because he sensed that nature had a new lesson in store for him. So the little frog stepped onto the snowy paths of the forest, observing and learning with all his heart every single day.
Tiny’s journey was not easy; the snow was cold yet magical, and the sun cast strange lights and shadows across the icy landscape. Each day brought new lessons in patience, perseverance, and the remarkable adaptability of nature.
Tiny lived by Mirror Pond at the edge of the forest, which, for most of the year, glittered like a vast, clear mirror. But during harsh winters, the pond was covered with a thick blanket of ice, cutting off Tiny from its life-giving water.
One day, as winter dressed the forest in its full splendor, Tiny noticed that the pond’s ice was growing thicker. “How will I get water now?” he wondered and set out to ask the wiser animals of the forest.
First, he went to the beavers, who were masters of both wood and water. One beaver smiled and said, “Tiny, the best way is to find spots where the water is close to the ground; the ice is never thick there, and you might find cracks.”
At this, Tiny pondered, but then continued on until he met the owl again, living in the tallest tree. “Oh, dear Tiny,” hooted the owl, “if you can’t break through the ice on the pond, you could use sun-warmed stones that give off enough heat to crack it.”
The little frog nodded but still felt uneasy. Finally, he reached the Stream, where water still splashed and danced over the rocks. The Stream whispered wisely, “Remember, Tiny, ice is only temporary, and the water always finds its way. Sometimes you just need silence to hear the melting song of the ice.”
Tiny understood that patience and observation were needed. He returned to Mirror Pond and watched the ice’s hairline cracks day by day.
Finally, the day came when, during an early morning walk, through a tiny opening, he glimpsed the sparkling water beneath the ice. Excitedly, Tiny worked his way in, and the edges of the ice slowly gave way to the warm sun, allowing the little frog to taste the fresh water at last. He learned how to adapt and find ways to overcome the challenges of winter.
That evening, as the stars appeared and the snow began to fall quietly, Tiny rested peacefully at the edge of the ice, knowing that patience and ingenuity are keys to overcoming any difficult situation.
